Bountiful is an amazing town located about 20 miles from Salt Lake City. Something very interesting about Bountiful is it was the second city settled by the Mormon pioneers. Interestingly enough, the city was named after an ancient city described in the Book of Mormon, which is the other testament of Jesus Christ for the LDS church. In the year of 1847 many families arrived to this area and began to settle this beautiful city. In the very beginning they had several serious issues with the Indians, which led to then constructing a large fort to keep their families safe. The first post office was constructed in 1857, only 10 years after the pioneers had arrived.

Another important event was the construction of the LDS Bountiful Tabernacle. The construction began on February 12, 1857. The total price to construct the Tabernacle was $60,000 dollars, and the construction took six years due to many unforeseen events that took place. In March of 1863, 150 visitors arrived to see the new landmark of this beautiful area. Heber C. Kimball who was well famous at the time offered the dedicatory prayer. On December 14, 1892 Bountiful officially became part of the U.S legislature and Joseph H. Holbrook served as the cities first mayor. In the 1950's the population of Bountiful doubled due to its proximity to Salt Lake City. Bountiful is one of the largest cities in Davis County.
