Brighton, Utah was established in 1936. It is known as Utah's oldest ski and snowboard area. Located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, Brighton receives over 500 inches of "the greatest snow on earth" with over 66 runs on two mountains, the longest being over 3 miles. It is located about 30 miles south-east of Salt Lake City.

Brighton, Utah is a recreational community at the end of U-152 in upper Big Cottonwood Canyon. This town was originally named Silver Lake after the small lake nearby. There are various claims for the name source. It could have been named after a city in England, or for Thomas W. Brighton or William Stuart Brighton, both of whom built homes in the area.

Brighton is open for ski & snowboarding season from mid November through late April.
The largest step in Brighton's development was in 1987 when Boyne USA, a family owned corp. est. in 1947 by Everett Kircher, purchased the resort.
Under Kirchers direction, in 1991 Brighton built its first high-speed quad-crest express.
In the summer of 2000 the next phase of Brighton's development began with a new high-speed detachable Quad, the Snake Creek Express
