Centerville, Utah Real Estate Listings

Home > County > Davis County > Centerville

Centerville, Utah was settled in 1848 by a man named Thomas Grover. The Cherry family also settled about the same time which led to a debate of who actually settled the area. After time the credit was given to Thomas Grover. This city is located between Farmington and Bountiful and because of this it was obvious that the name should be Centerville. In 1853 the citizens of Centerville tried to build a wall to protect themselves from the Indians. This wall was never completed because the Indian attacks became less frequent and eventually stopped. The land of Centerville was very fertile which made farming a way of life. There is a folk lore that many crickets were devastating the crops, but due to an East wind that carried the crickets to the Great Salt Lake, their farms were saved.
Centerville's first school was established in 1851, which was a small school for children that was made out of logs. In the beginning, the families had to pay their tuition monthly to support the school. Two years later a public school was created and supported by a tax, which is still in effect today. The first LDS meeting house was built in 1855 and saw W. R. Smith serve as the presiding bishop. The citizens of Centerville have a deep respect for their community. Many people live in Centerville because of its very low crime rate and ideal setting for raising a family. The motto of Centerville is, "A caring community where there is goodness in action".
