Copperton, Utah is a small community located at the mouth of Bingham Canyon. The canyon it is situated in was first settled in August 1848.

It was decided early in the planning stages to name this town Copperton after the old Copperton Mill which was located further up the canyon and after the copper mines itself.

Scott and Welch an architectural firm were hired by the Utah Copper Co. to design the overall layout of the town as well as the blueprints for the individual houses. They improved the ballpark which had been originally built on the site in 1923. Scott and Welch created over 85 different design variations for the houses in order to avoid the repetitive and uniform streetscapes that typified towns.
