Taylorville, Utah is located North of West Jordan, and South of West Valley and Salt Lake City. The population was estimated just over 60,000 in 2007. Taylorsville was formed about 1995 by combining the 3 historic communities of Taylorsville, Bennion, and Kearns.

In the 1980's the intersection at 5400 South and Redwood Road started growing rapidly with the developement of The Family Center, which included Harmon's, Smith's Walmart, and many restuarants and retail locations. At that time, the community was feeling that their tax money was not being put to good use with extra law enforment to support the growth of the area. A lack of input on how the area was being developed, concern about too many apartment complexes being built, and rising costs of county services forced the voters to incorporate the area into Taylorsville.
