Woods Cross, Utah was settled in 1855 by Daniel Woods. He originally named this area Woods Crossing but after a few years this was eventually shortened to Woods Cross. The reason this city was settled had much to do with water. They built watering sheds in the area due to the rich farm land. These watersheds would catch the rain and the snow run-off which was then used to water their farms. The Htch family was a prominent name to the area. They started several brickyards which provided an income to the families that would eventually move to the area. There were several factories that provided many jobs, which resulted in Woods Cross having a high growth rate.
Many years later due to this rapid growth it was necessary to remove many of these watersheds in-order to make room for the new settlers. This created many problem for the citizens of Woods Cross. They continued to have many water issues until after the Federal Government funded a national project which built an underground water system that would catch the water runoff and prevent it from flooding the area. This famous water system was later named the Bonneville Canal. The total cost to build the canal was $1,000,000 dollars. By the 1970's due to all the changes made by the government, Woods Cross had become the third fastest growing city in the state of Utah. Woods Cross is a very conservative city and the people there pride themselves on having a very low crime rate, low homeless transients, and many other wonderful things that makes Woods Cross a great city to live and raise a family.
